Dating from 1475, the Powder Tower was built as one of 13 gates to the city. By the 17th century, it was being used as a gunpowder storage facility - it was at this time that it developed its name.
Back in the day, it was Prague's city limit and where the main road to Vienna started. Also this is the way where empress Maria Theresa came back home after being crowned.
This marked the entrance into Old Town Prague for the Bohemian kings of old. You can pay to climb to the top for panoramic views, but the view looking up is still impressive.

Wirklich sehr schön. Bei dem mittelalterlichen Stadttor in Prag handelt es sich nicht um das einzige seiner Art. Die Stadt ist ohnehin schon bekannt für ihre außergewöhnlich gut erhaltene Altstadt.
